Debuts RIM BlackBerry 957-8 with Added Encryption for Government Use
Targeted
to Solving Department of Defense BlackBerry Security Needs FOSE
Expo, Sessionware
Inc, a reseller of wireless tools and applications announced today that it
is the only small business offering RIM's BlackBerry's 957-8 with S/MIME
encryption. This handheld is targeted to Government officials in the Federal
sector who are required to utilize a wireless handheld with a security
module. This module allows for
an extra layer of approved encryption when sending wireless email.
Sessionware is introducing the new device today at FOSE, the largest
information technology exposition serving the government marketplace. The S/MIME portion of a
BlackBerry is an email-system independent, Internet standards based protocol
that utilizes public key cryptography to provide writer-to-reader security,
including confidentiality, message integrity and sender authentication. This
technology extends the security of existing mail systems with
writer-to-reader encryption and allows for secure communications between
individuals in different organizations running similar or different email
systems. "Visit
Booth 2149 in the Small Business Pavilion at FOSE for a demonstration,"
commented Sessionware's CEO The
Department of Defense issued its Policy for handhelds to have FIPS
Validation in July 2002. By
October 2003, the Department of Defense PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)
Policy will be required on all wireless handhelds. Due
to COMSEC restrictions be lifted on this device, it is also available for
use by Homeland Defense and First Responders. ABOUT
